5 & 6 Bar Entrance Gates: 1. DIAMOND BRACED |
|
|
DB1 Seasoned English Oak Diamond Braced Entrance Gate. |
The Diamond Braced Gate is shown here in a fine planed Entrance Gate version, made in seasoned planed English Oak. This is a robust popular traditional field gate design which, when planed, becomes a very attractive entrance gate for town or country. Available as a single gate, double or un-even pair, or with a pedestrian double braced 'hunting' type gate. The diagonal rails are morticed into the top rail and secured with dry oak pegs. |
|
The Diamond Braced gate style is shown on the right as a double entrance gate made in Iroko hardwood. |

| 2. 'THE TAMAR' | |
|
English Oak Tamar (T1) This is our standard 6 Bar 'Tamar' gate. The gate shown above is made from green English Oak and was installed in 1997. The photo shows the gate after 8 years weathering in the wet west country! The limited bracing in this design means that we do not recommend this style being used in gates over 9ft wide. (T1)
Green Oak sawn 'Tamar' field gate also looks attractive as an entrance gate. |
The variation on the 'Tamar' design shown above was made extra high to customers specification in order to contain large dogs. Shown in planed, seasoned, air dried locally grown English Oak, with a tapered top rail.(T2)

ENGLISH OAK FIELD GATES Our sawn English Green Oak Field Gates are hand made to a high standard in our Devon workshop using mortice and tenon joints, good quality local green oak and a fine sawn finish. Our field gates are made with dry oak pegs securing the joints and galvanised coach bolts securing the rails. We can, if required, make our gates using traditional iron rosehead nails instead of modern bolts. For a photo of this type of fixing, please see the bottom of this page. |

'THE DEVON' An un-planed field gate version of the Devon gate is shown here made in 'green' (un-seasoned) English Oak. A fine planed finish makes these gates attractive as entrance gates. The Devon style of gate is the traditional field gate in Devon and Cornwall and variations on the design are found throughout the country. D1 |

The gate below, in English green oak is made using dry oak pegs as usual on the joints but the rails are secured by clinched iron rosehead nails, just as gates would have been made in the past . |
